Preschool education
Upon establishment Juliana We also offer preschool childcare. At De Oceanen toddler group, toddlers can explore our special (preschool-certified) groups, where they investigate under the specialized supervision of two (preschool-)qualified staff members. Whether in the classroom, in the hallway, in the garden, or outside the building: there's something to discover everywhere!
The group is designed to allow children to explore independently, ultimately leading to play and learning. There are spaces for independent play and areas that encourage collaborative play. There are open spaces for play, as well as corners where children feel unseen. The child's distance from a professional contributes to the various phases of play.
Basic places can be found in all groups.
- Think Corner (Building and Construction Corner)
- House corner
- Art corner
- Discovery Corner
- Language corner
- Theme corner
- Sand-water table
The VE programme is supported by the general pedagogical policy that characterises De Kleine Wereld.

Location and Region
Establishment Juliana is located in one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam's city centre, on Oudekerksplein.
The homely-furnished groups, the sea of adventurous outdoor spaces and the peace and quiet are not something you would expect at your front door. Juliana – started in 1872 as a “childcare center” on Warmoesstraat – is the oldest daycare center in Amsterdam. Today Juliana, specially designed by Sjoerd Soeters as a daycare centre, housed in a new building next to the Oude Kerk.
Group rooms
Inside, well-equipped group rooms are located at the rear around the playground, while the other rooms face the street. All group rooms have large windows overlooking the courtyard, allowing for abundant natural light.
There's a spacious central hall, and the groups are furnished with various play areas and soothing colors, contributing to a homely and welcoming atmosphere. Children can choose from a wide range of play materials spread throughout the various play areas. Each group also has separate bedrooms, with each child having their own bed.
Playing outside
At the rear is a beautiful circular courtyard where children can play with various natural elements. The baby groups also have their own area within the playground where they can play outside in peace.
What do parents think of this location?
“Fantastic care with warm, lovely people.”
“Amazing daycare and staff! Couldn't have hoped for a better place for your daughter's first nursery experience. Highly recommend it!”
“Super clean and very responsive. There is nothing wrong with the area - they face the church. I live in the area and it is nice to see that there are children in the neighbourhood. More places like this should exist - especially in the old area. @Paul - I don't know why you are so offended.”
Our Team
Establishment Juliana is characterized by the highly experienced and committed team that puts personal attention for the child and the parents first.

Our core values
Children are unique individuals; they are strong, talented, and have a natural drive for self-development. They are curious and explore the world at their own level, at their own pace, and according to their own abilities and character.
De Kleine Wereld offers the child a complementary environment at home and at school. It is therefore crucial that we arrange the child's care in consultation with the parents. We offer an environment full of possibilities. With us, the child experiences different things and develops partly through contact with other children and adults. All this makes the care at De Kleine Wereld an essential part of education.
